Larry Frank - Guest Speaking Notes
We had a great presentation by Larry on April 1st, 2015. Here are just a few notes from the night in no particular order:

- Try to get into the creative zone before you go out, use music or whatever relaxes you
- Learn to shoot from the hip when shooting people. Remember to distract and compliment for great shots and cooperation
- If you use a point and shoot and have that annoying dangling lens cap buy some velcro. Use one piece on the outside of the cap, the other side on the bottom of your camera and viola, stuck and no longer annoying
- If you see something, do something to capture it. You don't want to say " I should have"
- When posing a group of people have every three heads form a triangle for a pleasing shot
- Use distractions ( Larry uses a whistle) right when you take a group picture. Take one shot when you distract them then take a series of 2 -3 right after you finish distracting the group as they will all be looking at you and smiling or laughing at the distraction
- If you are using a flash on camera set it to one stop below ambient light to just kick in a bit of front light
- When you are thinking of publishing or creating a slide show, or put images for sale work in a theme
- Be sure to simplify - start wide but get closer and chose one thing to focus on, great images come from clarity
- Always use humour in your images
- Never go out with a negative attitude
- It's hard work to get good shots, you need to keep at it and push to get that one good image
- And lastly : Give back with your photography when you can. Help out those who can't afford publicity shots or volunteer your time. Even write a story about a person or event and donate the money back.
