It takes a minimum of six Halton Hills Club members to manage the flow of images on judging day - four image handlers, and two data primes. This year, the PhotoArt committee had 10-12 people working and assisting on judging day.

As seen in this image, one handler feeds the images into the lighted judging box. During the judging process, judges are only made aware of an image's title. It is announced as the image is placed into the judging box.

Although standardized judging specifications indicate that judges must sit a minimum of six feet away from the image, they are allowed to approach the image for closer review.

This is a common sight during PhotoArt judging.

Each judge is provided with an electronic scorer with numbers from one to ten - the cumulative total of the three judges scores determines the ranking of an image within the competition.

Seen here is the electronic device that displays the judges scores.

Since these pictures were taken we've upgraded our scoring equipment to a new, state of the art, computerized system. This does not affect the judging process but it does make it easier.

These scores are recorded by two data recorders - scores are confirmed and recorded both manually as well as into a computerized spreadsheet.
Once the final score has been confirmed by both data primes, the image is removed by our second handler.

Based on the announced confirmed scores, the third handler groups each image by score. This is done for ease in the event that several images tie for a score. All tied images are run through the judging box again - all judges must agree on all winning images.

The fourth handler gathers all non-winning images back into their respective categories. This year's judging process took approximately four hours from start to finish. Once completed, images were once again sorted back into the bags of the respective entrants by all HHCC members present - another two hours.

A Job Well Done!
